Vw golf diesel

A good wee driving car got a lot of work done in a service and have the receipts for the work car might need some other work done. But car has big mileage so it could do for parts our just keep driving it .8 months mot .this would be good car for first car .open to reasonable offers no time wasters. Might be replacing alloy wheels with standard wheels.and there is engine light on dashboard i tried to get sorted but no one knows the problem.
